SCARRING & STRETCH MARKS

Whether they’re from pregnancy, rapid weight changes, or healing wounds, stretch marks and scars are part of most of our lives, making them entirely normal.

Let’s not hide them; let’s tackle them head-on, aiming to soften, fade, and blend these life badges gracefully.

Like most scars, the deeper or more severe the scar is, the harder it will be to treat. Our professional-grade product line and advanced treatments available at our clinics will help reduce and repair over time.

What causes Scarring & Stretch Marks?

Scars may form through various means, such as surgery, burns, acne, or injury, leaving behind marks that narrate our past.

Stretch marks, those streaks that dance across the skin, arise from rapid skin stretching or shrinking, where the elastin breaks, and a scar forms.

These marks commonly appear on areas like the abdomen, breasts, thighs, and buttocks during significant body changes. Unfortunately, not all scars are welcome, and many people choose to seek treatment for the appearance of unwanted, visible scars.

Atrophic Scars:

These scars are caused by the destruction of collagen during an inflammatory condition such as acne. Atrophic scars can be further broken down into the following three types:

  • Ice pick scars: small, narrow and often deep
  • Boxcar scars: flat in the middle with a defined border
  • Rolling scars: no distinct edges, wavelike in appearance

Keloid Scars

Like hypertrophic scars, keloid scars rise above skin level however keloid scars extend beyond the injury site and do not regress over time.

Keloid scars are also formed due to an overproduction of collagen while the skin is healing. Often keloid scars appear red to purple in color and are harder to treat.

Unfortunately, we cannot treat Keloid scars at our clinics.

Contracture Scars

Contracture scars occur when a large area of skin is damaged and lost. Often the result of burns, contracture scar formation pulls the edges Treatment for contracture scars is often surgical.

Hypertrophic Scars

Hypertrophic scars are scars that heal above the normal layer of skin tissue and appear thicker, raised and can vary in colour from pink to red.

Hypertrophic scars do not extend beyond the boundaries of the injury site and may regress over time and with treatment. Hypertrophic scars
are caused by abnormal production of extra collagen at the injury site during the healing phase.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Can keloids be prevented?

Keloids are often difficult to treat once they have occurred. Keloids can be prevented by avoiding unnecessary surgery (e.g. cosmetic surgery), tension and injury to the skin (e.g. tattoos, body piercings) and by taking some precautions in those who are at high risk of developing keloids.

While hypertrophic scars won’t completely disappear, they often improve significantly over time, becoming less noticeable and flatter. This process can take weeks to months, depending on the size and location of the scar.

Stretch marks sometimes can be treated with topical creams and treatments. They may go completely at some stage.
